There is just one more variation of a picnic set, in a class all of its own. Maples, renowned as fine furniture makers, producing a wide range of desks, tables and chests of drawers, in the period of 1905-1909, marketed a most interesting picnic set. One that could be utilised as a table, which could simply be moved outdoors for picnic pursuits. The wooden legs extended from a cleverly designed hideaway in the base, and it could then be turned into a picnic set just by opening the lid. These sets were beautifully engineered, and made in Walnut, then lined with red leathercloth, and a green baize card table was also incorporated into the design. I have encounted two variations, one with a card table and red interior, and one without a card table with a white lined interior. Full usual picnic requirements were provided, and these sets are in my opinion the most interesting sets ever devised.

Just one last variety of similar vein was encountered by me in 1997. A very long black leathercloth buffet table type picnic set made by Coracle.
